CURRENCY

The currency of Ecuador is the United States dollar, accepted as the national currency of Ecuador in January 2000. The money that is circulated includes notes and coins.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Ecuador’s climate varies with its regions. This area has an altitude of about 7550 ft (2300 m) above sea level and because of this, the temperature is comfortable, and does not get too hot.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

All tourists need a valid passport and an entry form-tourist card which is provided by your air carrier. Citizens of Canada, UK and USA do not need to obtain a visa for stays up to 90 days.

Day 1 – Transfer In

On arrival at Quito’s Mariscal Sucre Airport, you will be welcomed by one of our professional guides who will assist you with the private transfer to your hotel and help you accommodating and giving helpful information for your stay in this world heritage city.

Day 2 – Quito Experience with locals

This will be a great experience at this enchanting city that will take you on a walking tour through the cultural streets of the old Quito. We can participate in Quitenian traditions, history and local life. You will explore the streets of the historic district and participate in the daily activities the artisans are doing, there are many options to enjoy: chocolate factories, sweet shops, handicrafts, wood carving, making hats.  We will share some cultural legacy activities done in the past and how they have remained in the present almost without variations.

Our tour starts at a sweets shop, you will learn the process of making the traditional sweets in Quito and will enjoy some of them in the small restaurant.  We will then go to the neogothic Basilica del Voto Nacional, inspired in the Notre Dame Cathedral.  We will go up to the highest tower with an amazing view of the modern and old city.

The next experience is the visit to the legendary La Ronda street where we will find an ice cream parlor with an innovative proposal, its delicious ice creams with flavors inspired in the popular Ecuadorian gastronomy, we will have the opportunity to interact with a hatter and his stories and legends and we may find some artists interpreting some of the Ecuadorian legendary dances.

Day 3 – Quito – Cayambe – Otavalo

Leaving Quito after breakfast with your guide, we will pass by Guayllabamba town where you can try its typical fruit the cherimoya.  In route we can admire the beautiful landscape and snow-capped mountains in the area.  When passing Cayambe, we will arrive to the Hacienda La Compañía de Jesús, its name is because it belonged to the order of the Jesuits, who were established in Ecuador.

It is a historical hacienda with a house of Neoclassical French style, built in 1919 adorned with the original furniture and still retains, in perfect condition, its ceilings, wallpaper and floors. We will also visit its permanent show room of wonderful roses that are produced on their plantation and are ready to be exported.  The roses produced in Ecuador have strong and long stems, big buds, vibrant colors and beautiful foliage.

After visiting the roses display, we will enjoy a delicious snack and later visit the Jesuits’ ancient chapel.

We will then get to Otavalo, one of the most famous markets in Latin America, we will visit the Plaza of Ponchos to find all kinds of handicrafts, our guide will give you some free time to enjoy bargaining and buying souvenirs to the nice Otavaleños, one of the most prosperous indigenous cultures.  If times permits, we will also visit a small village and the artisans and learn how their excellent handcrafts and innovation keep them every day.

Day 4 – Otavalo – Cotopaxi

Depart from Otavalo after an early morning breakfast towards the Cotopaxi National Park, one of the most important visits in Ecuador, it has the highest active volcano in the world.   We can observe the endemic flora and fauna of the area like wild horses, deer, llamas and more.  We will visit Limpiopungo Lake, located near Rumiñahui volcano, 4757 meters, or go hiking to observe birds.

Day 5 – Roses Plantations

After breakfast we will go to one of the roses plantation located in the area.  In Ecuador, roses plantations have the advantage of all year perpendicular sun light. This allows for stems and buds to grow naturally long and straight.  The cool and dry weather reduces the plagues risks and the use of chemicals. That is why Ecuador is the perfect location to produce roses all year round. Many roses plantations include a snack and some products are based on roses flavors.

Return to Quito in the afternoon.

Day 6 – Departure Day

Today after breakfast, your guide will  take you to the airport in time for your international flight back home or to continue with your next experience in Ecuador.
