CURRENCY

The currency of Ecuador is the United States dollar, accepted as the national currency of Ecuador in January 2000. The money that is circulated includes notes and coins.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Ecuador’s climate varies with its regions. This area has an altitude of about 7550 ft (2300 m) above sea level and because of this, the temperature is comfortable, and does not get too hot.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

All tourists need a valid passport and an entry form-tourist card which is provided by your air carrier. Citizens of Canada, UK and USA do not need to obtain a visa for stays up to 90 days.

Day 1 – Transfer In

On arrival at Quito’s Mariscal Sucre Airport, you will be welcomed by one of our professional guides who will assist you with the private transfer to your hotel and help you accommodating and giving helpful information for your stay in this world heritage city.

Accommodation at hotel Patio Andaluz, Casona de La Ronda or Casa Gardenia including breakfast.

Day 2 – Quito experience with locals

This will be a great experience at this enchanting city that will take you on a walking tour through the cultural streets of the old Quito. We can participate in Quitenian culinary traditions, history and local life. We will explore the streets of the historic district and participate in the daily activities the artisans are doing, there are many options we can enjoy: chocolate factories, sweet shops, handicrafts, wood carving, making hats.   We will find some activities that they used to do in the past and we will also share with them what they are doing in the present.

We will start our tour at a traditional Quitenian handmade sweets shop, we will learn the process of making the traditional sweets in Quito and will enjoy some of them. They are prepared in an artisanal way and have the ability to take a trip through old times. We will then go to the neogothic Basilica del Voto Nacional, inspired in the Notre Dame Cathedral.  We will go up to the highest tower with an amazing view of the modern and old city.

The next experience is the visit to the legendary La Ronda street where we will find an ice cream shop with an innovative proposal, its delicious ice creams with flavors inspired by the popular Ecuadorian gastronomy and then, we will have the opportunity to interact with a hatter and all his stories and legends.

We will continue walking by the street of the seven crosses to enjoy old colonial facades and churches like La Cathedral, La Compañía and San Francisco as well as the main square with the main buildings.

Day 3 – Quito – Otavalo

Leaving Quito after breakfast with your guide, heading to Otavalo, famous for its artisan market, full of vibrant colors, where you will find typical handcrafts and souvenirs. On route we will pass by Guayllabamba town where you can try its typical fruit the cherimoya.  We continue our trip, and we will have a short stop at the San Pablo lake to enjoy the views.

We can admire the beautiful landscape and snow-capped mountains in the area.  When getting to Otavalo, one of the most famous markets in Latin America, we will visit the Plaza de los Ponchos to find all kinds of handcrafts, our guide will give you some free time to enjoy bargaining and buying souvenirs to the nice Otavaleños.

In the afternoon we will visit Cotacachi, where you can find leather handicrafts and a short visit to Cuicocha lake which used to be a Volcano and now it is converted in a magic lagoon.

Accommodation at Hacienda Cusin or Pinsaqui or similar including breakfast.

Day 4 – Otavalo – Quito

After breakfast, we will visit some of the nicest towns around Otavalo area where you will find many artisans at their workshops, so you can admire their hand made works.  One of the nicest is San Antonio de Ibarra where you can find crafts made in wood.

We will offer a nice dinner at Octava de Corpus including soft drink and a glass of wine, you will have the opportunity to admire the wine cellar and some of the special pieces they have from all the world.

Day 5 – Quito – Coca

After 30 minutes flight to Coca over the eastern Andes mountain range, we start our amazing experience.

We will have a five minutes drive to the Napo River’s pier in a comfortable covered motor boat. Then, another boat riding along the Napo for approximately 2 hours. We could spot some aquatic birds on the way. We will get to Napo Wildlife Center’s welcoming area and take a magic and peaceful 2 hour dugout-canoe along a narrow creek to arrive to the lake where the lodge is located. Great chances to spot large birds like toucans, parrots or macaws as well as various species of monkeys.  Arrival at the lodge in the afternoon and after dinner, we will receive a short briefing and cayman observation in a paddle canoe and we will have a well deserved resting time.

Day 6 – Napo Wildlife Center

After a buffet breakfast, we will visit the 36-meter canopy tower to watch the life above the forest floor.   This tower is located about 30 minutes from the lodge, deep in the forest.

Get a very close look at colorful tanagers, macaws, toucans, flycatchers and even Spider or Howler Monkeys feeding themselves on the nearby trees.   These are good samples of the 567 species recorded so far. The canopy tower would be a whole new world to the guests of the Napo Wildlife Center. Return to the lodge for a typical Ecuadorian lunch.

After lunch, you can climb the dinning room tree tower for more birds, swim in the lake with your guide, or just relax in your hammock.  In the afternoon, there are many options to choose like hiking through a marvelous terra- firme forest to discover the ecology and the role of plants in the complex world of the Tropical Rain-Forest, some of them are ancient trees, vines, bromeliads, orchids, that stand out in this impressive natural garden. After hiking, explore the surrounding creeks with good chances to find a Giant otter family.

Day 7 – Napo Wildlife Center

After an early breakfast we will visit the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador!. Paddle downstream on the Añangu creek as far as the welcome area. Then, take the motor boat for a 10 minute ride to be amazed by the thousands of parrots: Amazon-Mealy, orange –cheek, blue-headed, among others which land to eat the clay that will keep them healthy.

We will back to the welcome area for a short hike to the parakeets’ clay lick, where hundreds of cobalt-winged parakeets wait at the top of the trees for the best time to eat the chemicals, minerals and salts finded in the clay lick. Lunch in the welcome area. Afternoon visit to the interpretation area to share a traditional ceremony with the shaman and to see the traditions of the ancestral Kichwa community of Añangu.  Late in the afternoon, back to the lodge for a welcome back refreshing fresh fruits juice.

Day 8 – Napo Wildlife Center

After breakfast, hiking along the Tiputini trail and its swamp and terra-firma forests to search more wildlife: White-Faced capuchin monkey, Golden-Mantled Tamarins, two and three toed sloths, pigmy squirrels, carnivores and their tracks on the forest floor. We will return to the lodge for lunch and to rest.

In the afternoon we will go in paddle canoes to have more possibilities of seeing unique wildlife exploring deeper areas in the surrounding creeks. After dinner, you can watch a video about Napo Wildlife Center and the community.

Day 9 – Napo Wildlife Center – Quito

After and early breakfast we will have our last excursion canoeing back to the Napo river and we may have new sights of Monk Saki monkeys, Giant otters, black-capped donacobius, hoatzins, or other birds. The canoe will return you back to Coca, for the flight back to Quito.

On arrival in Quito, your guide will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel Patio Andaluz, Casona de La Ronda or Casa Gardenia including breakfast.
